Liaoyang Dongjing City Ruins, the capital of Nurhaci

Located on the right bank of the Taizi River in Liaoyang, it was the capital built by Nurhaci, the ancestor of the Qing Dynasty, when he established his capital in Liaoyang more than 300 years ago, built in the seventh year of Tianming of the Later Jin (1622). In the original city, there is an octagonal hall where Nurhaci held political discussions on the northwest earth mound, and there are still ruins to be found. The city outline has mostly collapsed due to years of disrepair. Among the eight gates, only the main gate (Tianyou Gate) on the south side still exists. The steles, plaques and palace relics excavated from the city are collected in Liaoyang Museum. Although Dongjing City only has a history of four years as the capital, during these short four years, Nurhaci carried out a series of political, economic, military, and religious reforms here. This led to a qualitative change in the Jurchen society he led, and Dongjing City has important significance in the architectural history of the Qing Dynasty.
