One of the most popular viewpoints for tourists is Miradouro de Santa Luzia. 📌 Location / Atmosphere Miradouro de Santa Luzia is located in the Alfama area. It is built as a courtyard in front of the Igreja de Santa Luzia church. There is a tram stop on line 28E passing through it, making it very convenient to travel. There are 2 levels of viewpoints here. The upper level is next to the church. There is a small, beautiful, shady garden called Jardim Júlio de Castilho, which is dedicated to the famous Portuguese writer. If you walk down the stairs a little bit, you will be on the lower level with a crystal clear blue pool. Both floors have a café serving drinks and light food. If you have time to relax, you can sit and sip coffee and enjoy the view. ➡️ Pergola It is a long balcony on the edge of the cliff. There are open wooden lattices as a roof to provide shade. You can see the view of the Tagus River (or Rio Tejo) and the houses in the Alfama area. You can clearly see important landmarks such as the white dome of the National Pantheon. In addition to the beautiful view, the balcony itself is decorated with patterned tiles, or Azulejos, which are very beautiful. There are both upper and lower floors of the Pergola, but of course the upper floor has a better view. ➡️ Azulejos In addition to the floral patterned tiles decorating the Pergola, on the outer wall of the Igreja de Santa Luzia on the east side facing the garden, there are also 2 beautiful Azulejos. One picture shows Praça do Comércio before the earthquake in 1755. The other picture shows Christian soldiers fighting in the Crusades besieging Castelo de São Jorge from the Moorish soldiers in 1147. The craftsmanship is meticulous and full of details. It is worth seeing as much as the view.
