The Battle of Siping was commanded from this location

The museum in Lishu County, Siping City, Jilin Province, is the former site of the headquarters of the Northeast Democratic United Army during the Battle of Siping. Its origin is as follows: previously, it was the residence of Zhang Shaoyu, a descendant of the Yellow River Governor from the Qing Dynasty. His family fled to Lishu to avoid the flooding of the Yellow River and the potential accountability from the imperial court. From April 18 to May 18, 1946, the headquarters of the Northeast Democratic United Army was set up in this courtyard. The ordinary residential house in front was the command center. The commands issued from this house initiated the Battle of Siping, which shocked both China and the world. This was the second of the four battles for Siping. The exhibition hall presents the greatness of the Battle of Siping through sections such as 'Advancing Northward,' 'Liberating Siping,' and 'Promoting Negotiations through Fighting.' A series of paintings show the fearless and heroic spirit of the Northeast United Army soldiers braving bullets and not fearing sacrifice. Touching stories seem to transport us into the smoky war years, allowing us to feel the difficulties of this battle. On the side was the guard platoon, which at the time consisted of only one platoon to protect the eight leaders at the headquarters. The operations chief named Wang Jifang, who was greedy for pleasure, became the son-in-law of a landlord family and betrayed military intelligence, putting our army in a passive situation and forcing a strategic relocation. After liberation, despite his attempts to hide and change his identity, he ultimately could not escape the vast net of the law. The visit takes approximately one hour. It is a key cultural relic protection unit of Jilin Province, a patriotic education base for young people in Jilin Province, and a national defense education demonstration base in Jilin Province.
