A Once-in-a-Lifetime Visit to Machu Picchu

Tickets were reserved through the official site two and a half months in advance. The only available slot for the popular Route 2 was at 3 PM. For those planning a solo trip to Machu Picchu, it’s best to secure your entry ticket as early as possible. After booking the entry ticket, there were no issues reserving buses, trains, or accommodations. Around 2:30 PM, people with 3 PM reservations started gathering at the gate, but entry was strictly allowed from 3 PM onwards. We lined up first, hoping to take photos with fewer people, but quickly caught up with the 2 PM group, making it pointless to be at the front of the line. If you need a guide, there are plenty available at the entrance, including some who speak Japanese. In hindsight, it might have been better to explore with a guide for detailed explanations. Inside, there were lines at photo spots, but since there are many scenic spots, there’s no need to focus on just one. You can enjoy breathtaking views from various locations. Restaurants and snack bars are outside the entrance, but they are priced for tourists. Essential items to bring include your entry ticket (online tickets on smartphones are acceptable), passport, hat, sunscreen, water, and comfortable walking shoes. Although it’s crowded, taking your time to explore is recommended. Machu Picchu is truly an incredible and magnificent place, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s definitely a destination that can be visited independently.
