Exploring the Hidden Wonders: Domes & Dripstones at Mammoth Cave National Park

#2024mapped Kentucky, USA The Mammoth Caves are ranked as the world's longest known cave system spreading more than 400 miles. We booked a guided tour started that was two hours long, going approximately .75 miles and taking a total of 734 steps. Happy to say we all survived! I was super proud of the kids as neither of them complained not even once about the hundreds of stairs and steep inclines we endured. They were champs and enjoyed the journey! We entered the cave through a man-made door entrance that was located in a sink hole that the founder had used dynamite to create. This part of Mammoth Cave has been used for nearly 100 years and the tour really focused on the breakdowns and natural formations of the caves with many running falls and stalactites and stalagmites. It was beautiful and pictures really just don't do it justice. You can't use flash photography in the cave and it's really low dim lit light besides the certain spots where they have it lit so it's hard to capture a nice clear photograph while inside. It's definitely a spot you have to see for yourself to appreciate. Everywhere you look there is something so breathtaking and we were all just in awe and wanted more time to take the scenery in because two hours just didn't seem like enough. I would recommend checking it out if you love exploring nature and it's natural beauty!
