Gaisen Sakura Street: A Historic Tunnel of Blossoms in Shinjō Village

#cherryblossom25 Nestled in the serene landscapes of Okayama Prefecture, Shinjō Village transforms into a picturesque haven each spring. The village’s crown jewel, Gaisen Sakura Street, boasts a captivating tunnel formed by 133 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees, planted in 1906 to commemorate the Russo-Japanese War victory. These trees, spaced meticulously at 5.5-meter intervals, line the historic Izumo Kaido road, offering visitors a blend of natural beauty and historical ambiance.  From April 5 to 13, 2025, the Gaisen Sakura Festival enlivens the village with local food stalls, cultural performances, and traditional attractions. A highlight is the evening illumination, where the cherry blossoms glow softly under the night sky, creating an ethereal atmosphere. This illumination is scheduled for three days following the blossoms’ full bloom, anticipated around April 13 or 14, depending on weather conditions.
