Exploring Ancient Pompeii

Pompeii is such a vast complex and our 2 hours spent there only covered two regions. It was surreal to explore an ancient city. To be able to walk on Roman roads, enter residences, buildings and arenas that stood for thousands of years was really amazing. Looking at the remains of the victims of the volcanic eruption was sobering to say the least. Their last moments frozen in time. As it is such a huge area to cover, wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking on cobbled ancient roads and paths. Also, if you’re there in summer like we were, dress comfortably because the Italian summer, although beautiful, the heat can be really scorching! Unfortunately, Our driver was waiting so we had to cut the visit short. I was sad I couldn’t get to see some of the things Mary Beard highlighted on her BBC series.
