Grand Old Lady - Miri Oil Well No.1, MYY

The Grand Old Lady, site of Malaysia's first oil well Miri Number 1 is located on top of Canada Hill overlooking Miri town. Although of undoubted interest to those with a general interest to Sarawak's economic history this will hold a particular fascination with those who like me who were associated with Sarawak, and Malaysia's, Oil & Gas Exploration business. There is a replica rig on the actual original rig location, also many plaques detailing relevant information. The Oil Well was spudded in 1910 and only abandoned in 1972, total field production before depletion was 80 million barrels. Well worth a visit for both the views and the replica of the original Oil Well. There is also a restaurant next to the Oil Rig, only open for dinner but has wonderful sunset views of Miri town and the South China Sea. #tripblazers #awesomepic #oilwell
