The most famous battle in Japan is the Genpei War. According to legend, the defeated Taira clan fled to the Iya in the deep mountains of Shikoku to avoid being hunted by the Minamoto clan. One day, Kobo Daishi, who was preaching Buddhism in Shikoku, suggested that they build a bridge with vines so that they could cut the vines to protect the village when in danger. This is the origin of the Iya Kazura Bridge, but in official records, it can only be traced back to the Awa National Map in 1646, which records the Seven Vine Bridge. The most famous Iya Rattan Bridge today is located 14 meters above the Iya River. For safety reasons, it uses steel locks as its structure and is covered with vines on the outside. The 45-meter-long pedestrian bridge is thrilling to walk on. As the width is only two meters and the wooden boards at the bottom are spaced very wide, the feeling of fear will make the heart beat faster. Therefore, it is said that if a boyfriend or girlfriend walks on the vine bridge together, they will feel their heart beating fast. This is one of the three most unique bridges in Japan.
