When you think of Monbetsu, you think of crab claws! This object is so familiar that it's easy to forget them. Actually, this crab claw was jointly created by sculptor Toshi Nagasaki, Kuwabara Hisao of the Monbetsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Monbetsu citizens for a project called the "Drift Ice Art Festival" held in 1983. At the time, it was floating in the sea, but now it is exhibited on land.
