Fourth Stop: The White Southern Town of Monopoli

🇮🇹Fourth Stop: Due to the seasonal closure of the famous attractions and hotels in 'Polignano a Mare', the trip was redirected to another seaside town 20 kilometers away, Monopoli, in the province of Bari. Although it is not very well-known, it brought me a pleasant surprise! It is said that in the first century AD, the apostle Peter passed through this place while preaching. Historical records show that Monopoli was under Roman rule at that time and served as a military port. In the 11th century, it even became an important commercial port in Europe. During the Crusades, Monopoli's unique geographical location made it a transit station for military and information transmission. Various buildings from different historical periods in the city are still preserved and in use today. Let's start a city walk! Strolling through the medieval streets painted with white lime, every snapshot looks like a beautiful painting. Key landmarks to check out include the Monopoli Cathedral and the Charles V Castle, with a distant view of the magnificent Adriatic Sea bay. Its unique and picturesque scenery will undoubtedly become the next hotspot.
