I was deeply attracted by the bright onion tops.

St. Basil's Cathedral stands on Moscow's Red Square, like a fantasy world leaping out of a fairy tale. Nine spires with candy-colored onion domes interweave the sky. Ochre, emerald green, gold and royal blue flow rainbows in the sun, like a miracle created by God overturning his palette and splashing them. The alabaster arcades are entwined with pomegranate patterns and lilies, and each cornice is inlaid with glazed tiles, as if Byzantine icons were cut into architectural fragments and re-pasted. In the winter mist, the snow covers the spiral columns with icing sugar, and the candlelight from the stained glass windows casts a honey-colored halo; in the clear summer sky, the gilded cross pierces the clouds, and the Kremlin bell tower shines in the distance. This building, dedicated to the holy fool, sublimates pain into an eternal hymn in a carnival-like manner. #Moscow, Russia #MoscowRedSquare
