There is a legend that this temple has passed down that once upon a time, a crocodile climbed up a high hill to pay homage to Wat Chedi Thong (Wat Sui Min Wun Se Dee Dao), which is the main temple of Myawaddy. It refused to go back into the water. Even though the villagers chased it back into the water, it refused to go down until it died on the hill. This made the villagers aware of the animal’s faith in Buddhism. After that, this temple was built on the hill where the crocodile died. This temple is called Mijao Gong, which literally means Crocodile Hill Temple. However, most people call it Crocodile Temple in Thai.
