[Okinawa Shrine Search] Honchi Kosho Shrine: Shikina Shrine

The World Heritage Site Shikina-en Garden may be well known to everyone, but on the way to Shuri Castle, if you walk north of Shikina-en Garden, you will find the Shikina-gu Shrine of the same name, which has few tourists and is a quiet place to pray to the gods. Occasionally one or two locals would drive by to ask for advice from the gods or to get a red seal. Unlike Naminoue Shrine, the shrine here is located in the middle of the street and can be entered from three sides. One of the Eight Shrines of Ryukyu, Shikina-gu Shrine is located in the Shikina area near the Hanta River where no old water is seen. According to legend, during the Ryukyu era, King Sho-gen built the temple in order to pray for the recovery of his sick eldest son. The place of worship in Okinawa is called "Mitaki", which is different from the shrines in mainland Japan and does not have a torii gate. Later, influenced by Yamato, the community was established in 1680. However, sacred stones are still enshrined in the cave, and it is open to worshippers on the 1st and 15th of every month.
