National Scenic Spot, Nara Park

Nara Park is located at the foot of Mount Wakakusa. It is a vast park designated as a national scenic spot. Deer can be seen everywhere in the park. If you are interested, you can buy deer biscuits for 200 yen each to feed the deer. However, after purchasing, be careful to keep them well, otherwise they will be eaten by the deer. From 710 to 784, Nara was the political, cultural and economic center of Japan. At that time, the capital of Japan was located in Nara. Therefore, there are many famous temples near the park. Todaiji Temple is a cultural heritage. The temple has the Great Buddha Hall, one of the largest wooden buildings in the world. The Great Buddha Hall houses the world's largest bronze Buddha statue, weighing about 300 tons. Kofukuji Temple has a 50-meter-high pagoda, which is the second tallest five-story pagoda in Japan. Unfortunately, when I went there, the pagoda was under repair. Kasuga Taisha Shrine is a dark red building with many stone lanterns on the nearby trails. The National Treasure Hall in the shrine houses about 3,000 national treasures and important cultural properties. Nigatsu-do Hall of Todaiji Temple is located at a high point, from which you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Nara area. Mt. Wakakusa is famous for the traditional Nara event "Yama Festival" held in January every year. Climbing to the top of the mountain, you can see the scenery of Nara, such as Kofuku-ji Temple and Todai-ji Temple. I would like to remind you that Mt.
