Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a World Cultural Heritage Site in Japan

#Japan Attractions Kasuga Taisha, one of the 22 shrines in Japan, was built in 710 AD. It is a shrine located in Nara Park, Nara City, Nara Prefecture, Japan. It was formerly known as Kasuga Shrine. The gods enshrined in the shrine include Wu Ong Chui Ming, Jing Jin Zhu Ming, Tian Erwu Gen Ming and Bi Mai God. The regular festival day of the shrine is March 13 (Spring Festival). The builder was Fujiwara no Fuhito. As part of the cultural heritage of the ancient capital of Nara, it has been registered as a World Cultural Heritage. What caught my eye most in the shrine was part of the temple roof (Figures 14-17). Of course, it was not the part made of tiles, but all of it was made of cypress bark stacked together and nailed with bamboo nails. I was amazed at the level of care that went into laying all the bark so neatly on the roof. In terms of construction cost, I believe it will be much higher than a tiled roof.
