New Taipei City Art Museum Opens with Free Admission to Four Major Exhibitions Until the End of June

After a decade of planning and a budget of 3 billion NTD, the New Taipei City Art Museum in Yingge has finally opened its doors. Admission is free until the end of June, and for six consecutive weekends, visitors can enjoy performances and a 300-second fireworks show. Designed by architect Yao Ren-Xi, the building incorporates Sanxia red bricks and over 3,000 metal tubes symbolizing reeds. It is a rare example in Taiwan over the past 20 years of an art museum entirely led by local designers. The newly opened museum features four major exhibitions: "Radical City," "As Natural As It Gets," "Don’t Worry Baby" by Xindian Boy, and "Reflections of the Past." Among them, "Reflections of the Past" focuses on the history of New Taipei City, showcasing traces of urban development from Taipei County to New Taipei City through themes like textiles, ceramics, and mining, combined with works by artists. Another intriguing exhibit features canvas painted to resemble meat, vegetables, seafood, and other vibrant market scenes. The immersive "Xindian Boy No. 5" exhibition uses game engine digital projections contrasted with an old-media small house, creating fascinating interactions between virtual and real.
