New York Public Library

New York Public Library - this is a space that is completely different from the bustling downtown New York, it feels like entering another world. It is a place full of ambition, a place where immigrants and children seek knowledge, information and spiritual comfort. Writer Calvin Trillin called the New York Public Library "the most egalitarian place among New York's great cultural institutions, no tickets needed, no membership required; it is also the highest level place, anyone entering and leaving the library can feel they have the same qualifications as Harvard University students." In front of the library information desk, volunteers guide the endless stream of visitors, and the flow of people is constant all day. The main reading room in the library is one of the largest column-free rooms in the world today. When it was first designed, the first librarian, John Shaw Billings, requested that the reading room be set on the highest floor, so that it could take natural light and be far away from the noise of the street. Today, some of the rooms in the library still maintain the layout when they opened. Readers still use heavy wooden tables, with Tiffany-designed table lamps on them. The New York Public Library is the largest municipal public library in the United States, consisting of the main library and 85 branches, with a collection of books, periodicals, manuscripts, maps, pictures, including the earliest versions of British and American literary masterpieces, precious ancient books and materials, etc. It's very worth a visit, to feel this majestic and heavy momentum.
