My Trip to Bolivia's Uyuni Salt Flat: A Mirror to the Sky

Bolivia 🇧🇴 Uyuni ~ Mirror to the Sky The Uyuni Salt Flat, also known as Salar de Uyuni, is the world's largest salt flat, located at an altitude of 3,656 meters and covering an area of 9,065 square kilometers. The Uyuni Salt Flat was formed by the drying up of the ancient Lake Minchin. Tens of thousands of years ago, this area was a vast ocean. With the continuous uplift of the Earth's crust, lakes were formed. Due to the dry climate, the lakes gradually dried up, forming the salt flat we see today. Every year, during the rainy season from December to April, the surface of the salt flat is filled with rainwater, forming a shallow lake. In calm conditions, the lake's surface becomes a mirror, reflecting the sky and clouds, blurring the boundary between the earth and the sky, creating the stunning effect of a "mirror to the sky." We were relatively lucky. It had rained heavily two weeks prior, and the accumulated water was more than half a foot deep, making areas like the salt sculptures inaccessible. Unfortunately, it was quite windy, so the mirror effect wasn't at its best.
