Inner Mongolia has two major grassland areas. First, Hulunbuir, located in eastern Inner Mongolia, is quite far from southern cities. It's a vast, boundless expanse of nomadic grassland. Second, the Ulan Butong Grassland, also in eastern Inner Mongolia, is over a thousand kilometers from Hulunbuir—just imagine how vast Inner Mongolia is! Ulan Butong is situated south of Keshiketeng Banner in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, near the cities of Chengde, Chifeng, Duolun, and Keshiketeng Banner. The Ulan Butong Grassland features rolling hills, sandy lands, small shrubs, birch forests, and rivers. It offers European-style scenery and served as the filming location for famous TV series like "Huan Zhu Ge Ge" and "Kangxi Dynasty's" battle scenes with Galdan. It's a favorite among photographers and off-road enthusiasts. Attractions around Ulan Butong include Dali Lake, the 5A-rated Aobao Stone Forest, Huanggangliang Forest Park, Baiyin Aobao Nature Reserve, and Gongger Grassland. If you have enough time, you can easily spend a week exploring the Keshiketeng Banner area. For experiencing Mongolian culture, head to Hulunbuir. For simply enjoying grassland scenery, Ulan Butong is ideal. The grassland isn't the destination; the journey itself is where you savor the scenery. Regardless of which grassland you choose, the grass starts sprouting in May and the scenery is at its best by June.
