Italy Travel | Sacred Space of Sicily - Palermo Cathedral

Palermo Cathedral, Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹 The Palermo Cathedral was founded in 1185 AD, and the Anglo-Norman Archbishop of Palermo and Minister Walter Ophamil (or Walter Milt) of King William II built this cathedral. Later, after the Saracens conquered the city, they turned it into a mosque. It was again converted into a cathedral in the Middle Ages, with only some smaller Arab architectural elements surviving today. The neoclassical style of the church today can be traced back to the twenty years from 1781 to 1801. It was a renovation plan executed by Ferdinando Fuga and Giuseppe Venanzio Marvuglia, and it continued until the 19th century. The large dome at the top of the main building and the smaller domes and murals covering the aisle ceilings were completed during this period. The top offers a panoramic view of the World Heritage - the blocks of the historic city of Palermo.
