Perth Museum can be visited for a whole day

The Rising Waters exhibition traces stories and objects associated with great floods in Scotland and abroad, from biblical accounts to ancient Egypt to North America, as well as recent events of rising water levels around Scotland. 👑The exhibition explores the growing threats posed by the global climate emergency and examines the impacts of flooding and extreme weather events on communities, businesses and infrastructure in the Perth and Kinross region. The exhibition also includes photos, memories and stories provided by locals. 🌍As part of the exhibition, the Perth Museum is inviting the public to submit photos of local flooding. The photographs form a central display that illustrates the lived experiences of the community. In addition to this, Perth Museum is inviting the public to share their memories, handwritten on postcards produced by the museum. ⬆️These blank postcards can be written on and submitted at selected locations at Perth Museum, Perth Art Gallery and Perth and Kinross Libraries. 📖This community-sourced collection will become a new physical archive of memories of floods past and present. 💎Placing local experiences in a global context, Waters Rising features an Egyptian sarcophagus damaged by the Nile floods, a rare 13th-century illuminated Bible, ritual copper bowls commemorating the Hindu flood myth of Vasudeva and Krishna, 18th- and 19th-century etchings and laminated prints of Noah’s Flood, and more contemporary works by renowned Canadian Indigenous artist Norval Morisseau and Scottish artists Will MacLean and Alan Kilpatrick. Visitors will be inspired to take action through stories and objects from today’s climate movement in Scotland.
