It was founded in 1881 by Jose Lello, and his brother António Lello started operating it in 1894. The design was designed by Francisco Javier Estevez, and followed the Art Nouveau style that was popular in Europe at the time. The red staircase, which is said to have been inspired by the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris, is beautiful. The wooden staircase is actually not wood, but lime painted with wood color. The stained glass ceiling with the bookstore's motto, "Decus in Labore," is the symbol of this bookstore. There is an 8€ admission fee, and a discount is given when purchasing books. The ticket office is on the right side of Lello Bookstore.
