Bali isn't just Denpasar

When you mention Bali, most people will immediately think of cheap beer and dodgy backpackers in Kuta (Despasar). Sure there are lots of those as well, but there's more to Bali than just drinking questionable alcohol with questionable individuals. We spent a week up in the mountains, well away from the sea. And we were well rewarded, with clean air, less crowds, and some really awesome outdoor adventure. The hiking and trekking, while cold, was very memorable. The botanical gardens were a very welcome change of scenery as well. Almost seemed like we weren't even in Asia. Highly recommend going away from Ubud as well, as there's certainly other temples than just the ones Julia Roberts would have glorified in film.
