It was originally a temporary gathering place for Takatori Church designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban and built in Kobe during the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. Because the church is mainly built with paper tubes, it is also called Paper Dome. Later, when the Yingqu Church was rebuilt, it was dismantled and donated to the Taomi Community in Puli, Nantou. The interior of the church is supported by 58 paper tubes, each of which is 5 meters long, 33 centimeters in diameter and 15 millimeters thick. The compressive strength of each paper tube is 6,936 kilograms, subverting the traditional imagination of paper. It is beyond imagination that paper, which is usually considered to be very fragile and vulnerable, can be used to build such a solid church. There is a giant ring-like installation in the park called the "Love and Mutual Help Lamp". If you look closely, it is actually two people holding hands, symbolizing friendship and mutual help. It is a very symbolic installation art. The Paper Dome Park is actually not very big, but in addition to the unique Paper Dome, there are also some installation art, such as the Birth of Pupa, Butterfly in the Wind, Peace Frog, and the Dream Butterfly Pavilion designed with Mengzong bamboo as the building material, where you can take photos while walking around. One of the highlights here is "Shaking Memory", which is an art installation of a canoe with steel bars decorated on it. It is the creation of artist Wang Zhenwei. Shaking memory is like the frequency of vibration, reshaping people's memory of earthquakes.
