The Qu family of Qi County was once very wealthy. The current Qu family compound was first built during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. It has been renovated many times, and the main existing buildings are from the Tongzhi and Guangxu periods of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the Qu family built 40 courtyards in Qi County. Only a part of the historical Qu family buildings remains today, namely the residences of Qu Yuanchao and Qu Yuangan. This courtyard is characterized by its narrowness, length and depth. The castle-like high walls and battlements make this mansion even more solemn. The stone railings at the entrance also highlight the simple features in many aspects of the courtyard. But when people pass through the overlapping five-entry courtyards and see the extremely deep courtyards and the exquisite brick and wood carvings, they will understand what is so exquisite about the Qu Family Courtyard that people often talk about. As a castle-like building, the courtyard is rich and ingenious in composition, with railing courtyards, open-building courtyards, main-building courtyards, stage courtyards, etc. combined together in a staggered manner. The roofs are of various shapes, and there are exquisite pavilions on the tall archways. The courtyards are separated by archways, halls, main buildings and main buildings, forming a rich transitional spatial form. Looking down at the compound from the air, it looks like a "Ming" character. The "moon" character on the right makes up the five courtyards and the hospital courtyard, stage courtyard and sedan courtyard on the east side. The "sun" character on the left is the three courtyards in the north and south of the west corridor and the study courtyard.
