At the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty (around 1370), Lu Gong, the ancestor of the Chen family, moved from Jinling to Kaiji in southern Jiangxi. Chen Wenxin, the fifth grandson of Lu Gong, lived separately in Yaxi during the Chenghua period (1465~1487). In the fifth year of Xianfeng (1855), four uncles and nephews, Chen Shoushuo and Chen Shoying, jointly built Yaxi Tuwei (also known as "Fuxing Tower"). In the eleventh year of Guangxu (1885), Chen Xianxue, the son of Chen Shooying, built another stone siege in the northeast of Tuwei. In addition to the two enclosed houses, Yaxi also preserves more than 100 traditional Hakka houses with unique styles. The site selection and construction of Yaxi Ancient Village fully embodies the concepts of "people-oriented" and "harmony between man and nature", and the site selection and layout are exquisite. The village site selection is based on the mountain and river trend as the basic element. The spatial configuration and village safety facilities are based on enclosed houses and village forts. The overall layout is integrated with the surrounding mountains, rivers and forests. The Yaxi enclosed house is located in a mountain basin, close to mountains and rivers. The house faces south as a whole and is backed by a hill 320 meters above sea level, which is conducive to forming a suitable microclimate without blocking transportation connections with the outside world. A stream flows from east to west in front of the Yaxi enclosed houses. After passing through the village, it joins three other streams. Together with the good vegetation on the surrounding mountains, it forms an overall beautiful residential environment for the enclosed houses.
