Unlike any other city in the Netherlands, its skyline was a bold mix of futuristic skyscrapers, geometric masterpieces, and daring designs, a testament to its resilience and creativity after being rebuilt from the ashes of World War II. One of the most fascinating sights was the Cube Houses, a collection of tilted, bright yellow structures designed by Piet Blom. Walking through this architectural marvel, I was amazed by how each house stood at an angle, defying conventional design and creating a visually striking urban landscape. Just nearby, the Markthal was another impressive feat—a massive, horseshoe-shaped building adorned with a vibrant ceiling mural. Inside, its soaring glass façade enclosed a bustling food market, blending functionality with artistic brilliance. Strolling along the Erasmus Bridge, known as “The Swan” for its elegant, asymmetrical shape, I admired how this architectural icon seamlessly connected the city’s north and south. It was a perfect reflection of Rotterdam’s bold and forward-thinking spirit. Not far from there, the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, with its mirrored, bowl-shaped exterior, stood as a beacon of contemporary innovation, reflecting the skyline in a way that blurred the boundaries between architecture and art. Each corner of Rotterdam revealed something extraordinary, from the brutalist beauty of De Rotterdam to the sleek curves of The Red Apple building. The city’s commitment to cutting-edge design made it a paradise for architecture lovers, proving that Rotterdam is not just a city—it’s a vision of the future.
