Seto Bridge Tower: A Spot to Enjoy the Stunning Views of the Seto Inland Sea

I am currently touring towers across Japan. My challenge is to visit the top 20 tallest towers based on their height. So far, I have visited 18 towers, and my journey will conclude with a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokyo in May, including stops in Akita and Yokohama. Among the 18 towers, the Seto Bridge Tower, ranked 11th in height, was a unique experience during my early March trip. Unlike other towers, this one does not have an elevator or an observation deck, as it is more of a building structure. To give you an idea, think of the Lotte World Gyro Drop. The Seto Bridge Tower operates like an amusement ride. Every 20 minutes, a circular platform resembling a flying saucer ascends 100 meters into the sky while rotating, then descends back down. The entire experience lasts about 10 minutes. You can sit in place and enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. Unlike the Gyro Drop, there are no safety bars; you sit on plastic chairs inside an enclosed space with windows, so you are not affected by the wind. The tower is equipped with air conditioning, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience even during summer or winter. Previously, I visited the Gold Tower, which features an aquarium inside its observation deck, creating a mystical atmosphere. In contrast, the Seto Bridge Tower’s observation deck is located in the middle of a bridge over the sea, giving you the sensation of floating above the water. Initially, the ascent and rotation might feel a bit scary, sending chills down your spine, but you quickly adapt. It’s like riding a soft version of the Gyro Drop without the free fall. Its open structure allows you to enjoy views from both the lower and upper levels. If you’re traveling to Takamatsu or Okayama, you can reach the tower via Sakai Station, where a local bus operates four times a day, making it accessible by public transportation. Additionally, there are parks, art museums, and other attractions nearby that you can explore. Thank you for reading!
