A trip to Sintra wouldn’t be complete without seeing Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most stunning estates recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site within the "Cultural Landscape of Sintra." This neo-gothic mansion was designed and constructed in the late 1800s. The estate’s main attractions include its enchanting gardens and the iconic initiation well. Though called a well, it isn’t actually a water source but rather an underground tower used for ceremonial purposes. The well features a 27-meter spiral staircase, approximately six stories high, and at its base, there are two main tunnels, one leading out to the garden.
