"Minapa" means "a lot of people laughing" in Ainu. It's located inside Sapporo Station on the Namboku Line of the subway. "Minapa" is located in the middle of the underground passageway, along with a rest area. The beautiful Ainu patterned panels on the ceiling are eye-catching. The large main theater shows weather forecasts and quizzes in Ainu, as well as animations and making-of videos. The touch panels embedded in the pillars allow you to search for information on Ainu culture and crafts, as well as information on Ainu-related facilities and events in Hokkaido. There is also an area where you can take your time to appreciate the exhibits of woodcarvings and other works. It's a spot we would recommend to tourists as a space where you can get up close and personal with Ainu culture.
