Sapporo Snow Festival

The largest snow festival in the most populated city of Hokkaido is impressive. It’s one of several throughout northern Japan. Be prepared for crowds and lots of walking on snow and ice depending on the weather. Ice cleats helped. The crowds are managed by creating one way paths and closing off vehicles at intersections. There’s dozens of food stalls selling everything from chocolate covered bananas to ramen, crab sticks and fried chicken. You can eat inside warming tents.
