Autumn in Akita prefecture

Autumn in Akita Prefecture is a breathtaking experience, as the region transforms into a vibrant tapestry of red, orange, and gold. During my visit to our friend in Yokote, we got 2 days driving around the Akita prefecture and I must say it was a very scenic drive. The peak fall foliage in Akita will be around mid to late October in the higher altitude, and late October to early November in lower altitude, depends on the weather each year. Make sure to check the autumn forecast of Japan before planning the trip here. Here is our itinerary Day 0: Arrive at Yokote Day 1: Early morning drive to Mountain Akita Komagatake (if weather allowed, you can drive to the 8th station, and a bit of hiking to the summit). Then drive back to Nyuto no Onsen for a fantastic hot spring experience. In the afternoon, you can tour around a few spots in lake Tazawa. If you love samurai district, I recommend a night stay in the Kakunodate town nearby and have a nice morning walk explore the town the next day. I visited Kakunodate in Spring so I skipped this destination Day 2: Early morning drive to Kawarage-Jigoku (one of the three most spiritual sites in all of Japan) which also have fantastic autumn sceneries. Then drive to Oyasukyo, have lunch and explore this wonderful mountain valley. After the trekking, you can drown your foot in the free outdoor bath tub. #fallcolors #100waysoftravel
