Shiretoko Five Lakes

The Shiretoko Five Lakes is one of the eight scenic spots in Shiretoko and a must-see when traveling to the Shiretoko Peninsula. The ecology of the Shiretoko Peninsula is well preserved, and you can often see animals such as brown bears (ヒグマ), deer, and foxes. There is now an observation deck overlooking the lake in this area, and a hiking trail around the lake has been built. The hiking trail around the lake is an 800-meter-long elevated trail. Because bears sometimes appear nearby, there are electric fences on both sides of the elevated trail for protection, and tourists can enter freely.
