Snowy Wonderland: Shirakawa-go

Our family of three rented a car from Kanazawa and drove directly to Shirakawa-go. The scenery along the way was absolutely stunning! We were lucky that there was still snow in March, making the entire Shirakawa-go look incredibly beautiful and dreamy. Walking along the streets and admiring the Gassho-style houses was truly breathtaking! The thatched-roof houses in Gifu's Shirakawa-go resemble hands clasped in prayer, hence the name "Gassho-style" (合掌造り). Naturally, this area is also known as "Gassho Village." Due to its secluded location, it was once a hiding place for defeated Heike warriors fleeing from battle. Remarkably, it has preserved its appearance from hundreds of years ago, earning its place as one of "Japan's Three Great Hidden Regions."
