Rumah Bebe’s history began in 1995 with a Nyonya named Bebe Seet, who was inspired to learn the traditional Peranakan art of beaded sandals when she could not get her hands on a pair of antique “kasut manek” (beaded sandals worn by “ Nyonyas ,” Peranakan women). It was an old shophouse from 1928 that Bebe chose as the ideal boutique. Its dilapidated condition gave her the space to redesign. Friends came together to help with ideas, contacts and advice on the renovation, and within eight months, under a new name, Rumah Bebe was ready to open its doors to welcome 80 overseas delegates to the 2003 PATA Convention, a Singapore Tourism Board event. #singaporetrip#food
