The PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore, through its innovative "vertical garden" concept, achieves a deep symbiosis between architecture and nature in a high-density urban environment. FDAT Architects has redefined this 21-story building, injecting the design concept of a "garden in a hotel" into the traditional vertical structure, making it a multifunctional space that integrates ecological benefits and design aesthetics. Vertical Greening System: A Layered Ecological Structure The hotel's green design organically combines the architectural structure with the plant landscape, creating a rich, layered vertical ecosystem. The three-story-high plant wall, the 360-degree spiral planter, and the 10-meter-high treetop viewing pavilion showcase the complex beauty of nature with diverse vegetation and parametric design techniques. The plant wall not only achieves the visual effect of green plants, but also optimizes indoor air quality and reduces energy consumption through its microclimate regulation, making the building present the integrity of the ecosystem in terms of vision and function. Space Regeneration and Environmental Responsibility: Reducing Carbon Footprint As one of the core designs, the project retained the original structure during the renovation, effectively reducing the carbon emissions caused by building demolition, which is in line with the principle of sustainable development. Reusing the existing building structure not only reduces a large amount of construction waste, but also avoids the 51,300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions caused by the demolition of high-rise buildings. This concept of ecological regeneration is not only reflected in the utilization of the building structure, but also in the selection of materials and resource management, demonstrating the building's responsibility in sustainable development. Indoor Functional Areas Coexisting with the Landscape The dining space is deeply integrated with the green landscape, and the greenhouse-style glass-covered private dining space is dominated by natural light, creating a dining experience that is seamlessly connected to the atrium garden. The arched structure design on the top of the banquet hall not only retains the visual characteristics of the steel beam structure, but also connects with the atrium through fully openable acoustic soundproof doors, forming an integrated ecological space layout and creating a highly open and layered space experience. Combination of Ecological Aesthetics and Environmental Benefits In order to achieve the ecological balance inside and outside the building, landscape designers planted 15,000 square feet of vegetation, including shade-tolerant plants and native tree species. The plant layers not only enrich the spatial perception, but also provide natural purification functions for the air quality inside the hotel.
