Shiquan Street is a commercial street in the southeast of Suzhou ancient city, with a total length of more than 2,000 meters. Because there were ten ancient wells there, it was called "Shiquan Street". Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty called himself "the Old Man of Ten Perfections". When he visited Suzhou during his southern tour, he stayed at the Xiatang Weaving House near Daicheng Bridge. In order to please the emperor, local officials changed the name of "Shiquan Street" to "Shiquan Street". From Wuque Bridge to the east, Shiquan Street was once an upscale residential area with numerous mansions and large courtyards. Before the reform and opening up, Shiquan Street, a quiet place in the midst of a bustling city, was once a gathering place for Suzhou's foreign-related hotels. Nanlin, Nanyuan, Suzhou and other hotels were all located here. Therefore, during the Cultural Revolution, Shiquan Street was once renamed Youyi Road. After the reform and opening up, the country's doors were opened, and most of the foreigners who came to Suzhou for tourism and inspection stayed in the foreign-related hotels on Shiquan Street. Merchants took the opportunity to open antique, calligraphy and painting, and handicraft shops, thus forming a well-known tourist specialty street that was featured in famous foreign travel magazines. In the 1980s, Shiquan Street was completely renovated and upgraded without losing the Suzhou flavor. It not only retains the French plane trees that have been planted for decades, but also retains the charm of pink walls, black tiles, and houses along the river. As a result, Shiquan Street has become more and more beautiful. Today, Shiquan Street still maintains its traditional layout of "water and land parallel, river and street adjacent, and a river between two streets", and the riverside landscape of "small bridges, flowing water, and houses", becoming a model for the protection and development of the ancient city of Suzhou.
