The Temptation of Taizhou Cuisine

Compared to Suzhou, Yangzhou, and Nanjing in Jiangsu, Taizhou is less well-known. On this trip to Taizhou, I found it to be a leisurely city full of happiness. Especially worth recommending is its breakfast cuisine: crab roe soup dumplings, crab meat buns, yangcao buns, wuding buns, as well as fish soup noodles, eel noodles, fish soup wontons, and more. The most highly recommended dish is the five-flavor hot shredded tofu, which is smooth and soft, leaving a fragrant taste in the mouth—truly exquisite. In Taizhou Old Street, there is the Taizhou Morning Tea Culture Museum, which tells the discovery history of Taizhou morning tea buns and other items. The "Ruiniánfēng·Fēngdéyuán" restaurant in Hailing District, Taizhou, which has become an intangible cultural heritage inheritor, has nearly 70 years of history and is the only intangible cultural heritage morning tea shop in Taizhou. The "Crab Roe Bun" is filled with rich crab roe, with a chewy outer skin; one bite bursts with juice, and the aroma fills the mouth, packed with crab roe and crab meat—super satisfying. The "Yangcao Bun" is simply amazing! Although it contains no meat at all, the taste is exceptionally fresh; the green filling is fragrant and appetizing. This dish is even more delicious than the crab roe bun, with every bite a surprise. The "Fish Soup Wonton" is also a masterpiece, with thin skins and large fillings, and the fish soup is incredibly fresh. Every dish is satisfying. Also worth recommending are yangcao pufferfish and braised river clam with pork, both super delicious. It feels like eating pufferfish in Taizhou offers the best value for money—affordable and unforgettable.
