[Monument marking the southernmost point of Japan on Hateruma Island]

📍 Hateruma Island Hateruma Island Monument The cliffs of Takanazaki, located at the southernmost tip of Hateruma Island, are located at 123 degrees 47 minutes 12 seconds east and 24 degrees 02 minutes 24 seconds north, and are a popular spot for tourists to take commemorative photos. The monument was actually built in 1970 by a student who was visiting the island on a trip and paid for it with the money he earned from his part-time job. The handwritten letters, which have a handmade feel, are very tasteful. The inscription reads, "This monument was built here on Hateruma Island, when young people from all over the country brought stones from all over the country and poured their souls into it, when Okinawa was returned to its homeland.
