Spanish Mediterranean Coast Tour ~ Castellón (Region) This secluded town in the Alto Maestrazgo region is one of the finest examples of Levantine rock art and has been awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO. Tirig is a town in the Alto Maestrazgo, traditionally dedicated to animal husbandry and agriculture (almond and olive trees), famous for one of the most important examples of Levantine rock art. The paintings have been awarded the title of World Heritage by UNESCO and are located in the La Valtorta Gorge. Nearly 900 figures were found there, grouped in 17 groups of “covachas”, featuring humans and animals, mostly hunting scenes, a sign of their pre-Neolithic age. The Ravaltorta Museum in the town hosts an interesting exhibition of reproductions of these paintings, which were left by the inhabitants of the Mediterranean basin in prehistoric times. #February2025 #SpainTravel #Valencia
