[Tokyo] Setagaya Hachiman Shrine - Hachiman Shrine, home to a sumo ring

Going through the torii gate, Itsukushima Shrine (Ichikishimahime-no-mikoto) is located to the right, with a waterfall, pond, bridge, garden, and wisteria trellis. The birds in the pond came out, so the worshippers were taking pictures of them. The sumo ring in the precincts was where votive sumo wrestling was held. It was one of the three great sumo wrestling tournaments of Edo (Shibuya Hikawa Shrine, Oi Kashima Shrine). Even today, votive sumo wrestling is held by the Tokyo University of Agriculture Sumo Club during the annual festival. The flowers floating in the temizuya (purification fountain) on the left are beautiful. Hydrangeas were also displayed. The deities worshipped are Emperor Ojin, Emperor Chuai, and Empress Jingu.
