Shito Temple Ueno

A beautiful shrine located right next to the Ueno Zoo. It is built in 1627 bearing typical Edo features like the gold leaf trimmings and carvings. People came to pray for happiness, good health and longevity as well as educational success. It's free to watch the Karamon and anything outside the Shrine boundary. The entrance fee of ¥500 to enter the boundary however was not considered justified. First, the Shrine was forbidden to enter for preservation purposes. Second, the area was really small scale. The only thing left was to admire the gold foiled structure from afar.
