Tokyo National Museum: Japan's oldest museum

There are many art galleries and museums around Ueno Park. We would like to introduce one of them, the Tokyo National Museum. The Tokyo National Museum was founded in 1872 (Meiji 5) as a national museum operated by the National Institutes for Cultural Heritage. It is the oldest and largest museum in Japan and stores, collects, and exhibits a large number of Japanese and Oriental cultural assets. As of April 2023, the total number of items in the museum's collection is approximately 120,000. This includes 89 national treasures and 649 important cultural properties. The museum has five large buildings on its premises: the main building, Hyokeikan, Toyokan, Heiseikan, and the Horyuji Treasure Gallery, as well as a garden and teahouse. Outside the premises, the Kuroda Memorial Hall, located across the street from the museum, and Yanase-so, located under the hill in Tokorozawa City, Saitama Prefecture, are also facilities of the Tokyo National Museum. #PR #TokyoTourism
