[Tokyo, Asakusa] Three vibrant days

Asakusa is bustling with tourists all year round. The Sanja Festival, held in May, is the most energetic time of the year in Asakusa. The people of Asakusa spend the whole year just for this, so it's such an important event that you could say it! The Sanja Festival is held on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday closest to May 17th and 18th, and in 2024 it was held on the 17th-19th. On the second day of the festival, Saturday, about 100 neighborhood mikoshi (portable shrines) gather behind Sensoji Temple, and each one is purified at Asakusa Shrine before being carried to each neighborhood association. The enthusiasm of the carriers is palpable, and just watching it makes you feel great!
