Tokyo’s Newest Icon, the Stunning Tokyo Skytree

The Tokyo Skytree is Tokyo’s newest iconic landmark and is a must do if you’re in the city for a few days, you will not regret it! It offers 360 degree views of the worlds biggest city and really helps you get a perspective on the sheer scale of Tokyo. The whole city is visible and if you are very lucky on a clear day you can see the iconic Mount Fuji - Sadly it was a little overcast when I went so I didn't see it. But the views were still incredible! I ordered tickets online and collected them on arrival to speed things up, I went around lunch time and it was already super busy. I would advise going as early as possible as when it is busy they tend to kettle / group people together in batches and it limits your time in certain areas. They sell tickets by time slots and the busier times mean you stay with a crowd the whole visit. The tower itself is built in a big, modern mixed use development with a huge shopping mall, aquarium and rail interchange. It’s worth taking some time after you go up the SkyTree to explore the local area - I found lots of interesting craft shops where I picked up some Japanese souvenirs and gifts. If you’re an aviation geek like me you are able to spot the incoming flights for both Narita and Haneda airports and also spot some of the incoming ship traffic into Tokyo bay. Overall an incredible experience I highly recommend!
