[Tokyo] A striking 900-year-old Zelkova tree

Nerima Hakusan Shrine 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃 Hakusan Shrine is located in Nerima, Nerima Ward. The deity worshipped is Izanami no Mikoto. It was founded in the Heian period, but the details are unknown due to a fire in the early Meiji period. Hakusan Shrine is known for having one of the largest Zelkova trees in the country. It is estimated to be about 900 years old. It was dedicated by Minamoto no Yoshiie in 1083 (the third year of the Eiho era) as a prayer for victory when he went to Oshu during the Gosannen War.
