Tokyo🇯🇵 Honmonji Temple

Before Nichiren Shonin passed away in October 1282, he built Honmonji Temple at the request of Ikegami Sounaka (one of the official designated sites (mountain names) was Choei-san, meaning "mountain of long-term prosperity"). Ikegami Munenaka was a wealthy lord and loyal believer at the time. Chihshang Zongzhong provided 69,384 pings (51.89 acres) of land. This number echoes the number of Chinese characters in the Lotus Sutra. On April 15, 1945, the temple was subjected to intensive bombing, resulting in the destruction of all buildings, leaving only the gate, a five-story pagoda, the Jingzo (Buddhist scripture storage room) and the Duobao Pagoda (stupa).
