Fukuragawa building and Sakura

#springwander A garden built as the residence of Toranosuke Furukawa, the third head of the Furukawa Zaibatsu family. Taking advantage of the location of the slope of the Musashino Plate, a Western-style building was built on a small hill on the north side, and it is characterised by a design that combines Japanese and Western-style gardens on the slope and Japanese-style gardens on the lowlands. The Western-style building and the Western-style garden were designed by Dr. Josiae Condor, a British man who had a great influence on the Japanese architectural world by working on the Rokumeikan and the Nicholas Hall. The Japanese garden was worked on by Jibei Ogawa, the seventh generation Ueharu, a Kyoto gardener who also built Heian Jingu Shrine and Maruyama Park. The garden by two geniuses is designated as a national scenic spot as a rare existence that is kept extremely well among the existing modern gardens that perfectly harmonise Japanese and Western styles.
