National treasures and other important antiques on display

#springwander Located in the prime location of Aoyama, a sophisticated area in Tokyo, this place is one of the few private museums in Japan with a history from before World War II. It has a collection of about 7,600 pieces of Japanese and Eastern antiques (as of the end of December 2021), including 7 national treasures, 88 important cultural properties, and 94 important works of art. Most of it is a collection by the first Kaichiro Nezu (1860-1940), a businessman, politician, and tea man, who is also the origin of the museum's name. Mr. Nezu wanted to "enjoy them with the public", and the second generation Mr. Keiichiro Nezu fulfilled his wish by opening the Nezu Museum of Art in his private residence in 1941.
